Offshore bond fund-raisings from Chinese companies have seen rapid growth over the past 10 years or so, and are expected to continue expanding in the future; This relatively new fund-raising format has opened up a convenient, flexible, diversified and decentralized financing channel for Chinese firms, boosting the risk diversity and finance resilience for their capital needs and asset-liability management. It also brings a new investment asset class with an attractive relative value to international investors for their global investment allocations.

WANG Wei, the Executive Vice President of the Hong Kong Institution of International Finance

Intro:

Dr. Wang Wei has over 20 years of working experiences in the fixed-income market, particularly in the area of offshore Chinese bonds. Dr. Wang currently services as the Executive Vice President of the Hong Kong Institution of International Finance. He was previously a MD at Bank of China International (2008-2020). Before that, he also worked in the fixed-income area at Citi, Salomon Smith Barney, and Merrill Lynch.

Before his tenure in the financial industry, Dr. Wang was involved in the academic research at the Columbia University and the Duke University for many years.

Mr. Wang holds a Ph.D in physical oceanography from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA, a master's degree from the Second National Institute of Oceanography of China, and a bachelor degree of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China.In addition, Dr. Wang also teaches finance-related courses at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) and the Renmin University of China
