On November 8th, the School of Finance, Renmin University of China (SFRUC) and FinTech Institute of Renmin University of China held a seminar focusing on topics of the current development trend of FinTech and the future operation of the Master of Science in FinTech (MS_FinTech) program. Industry FinTech experts and scholars were invited to talk about the challenges and opportunities in China’s FinTech development. In the meantime, lots of helpful suggestions were put forward for the MS_Fintech program. The seminar was hosted by Prof.QIAN Zongxin, director of the MS_FinTech program.
Ms.CHEN Qian,Chief Risk Officer of TAI Group opened the seminar with her keynote speech. She pointed out that a deep connection has already been formed between technology and finance, and so it is very necessary for SFRUC to cultivate FinTech hybrid professionals in this digital age .
Mr.YANG Wang, Chairman Assistant of HANDE FinTech Group then made another speech, entitled “Changes and Unchanges in FinTech”. He took us through the tremendous changes that FinTech has brought to China in recent years and shared his own entrepreneurial experiences on integrated financial services platform building.
In the round table discussion, ZHU Taihui, Chief Research Officer at JD Digits, QU Qiang, research fellow at RUC’s International Monetary Institute, LI Qinghao, Co-Founder &CEO of NewBanker, LIU Hongwei, Academic Member of People’s Learning Think Tank under People’s Daily. LIN Demiao,CEO of Paoding Technology, DU Xiaoyu, General Secretary of Tencent Finance Research Institute, SONG Ke, Executive Director of the RUC FinTech Institute shed their insights on the future operation of the MS_Fintech Program and gave very detailed suggestions on the program’s course design, teaching mode, alumni networking building and marketing.
These experts’ advice include creating more internship opportunities for students, adding RegTech into course design, sharing China’s successful FinTech unicorns cases with the world, emphasis on both finance knowledge and technology skills such as big data and computer, the building of internet thinking, potential cooperation between school and FinTech companies on lab building, and etc.
Prof. QIAN in the end gave his thanks to every participant in the seminar for their insightful sharing. He added that the operation team of the program has been making great efforts in the alumni work recently in order to create more helpful resources for them. In the future, “we will be dedicated to strengthen our alumni network and make SFRUC a life-learning platform for every alumni,” he said.
